If you know Pinky Swear Foundation, you know our colors.
Bright orange. Bold blue.
You see them in our logo, on our website, and throughout our work helping kids with cancer and their families. But these colors are much more than part of our brand. They are part of our story.
Before Pinky Swear Foundation existed, there was a boy named Mitch Chepokas.
Mitch loved orange and blue.
When Mitch was diagnosed with osteosarcoma at just nine years old, his family's world changed forever. During treatment, Mitch saw that childhood cancer affected more than a child's health. It affected the whole family.
One day in the hospital, Mitch overheard a family worrying they would not have enough money for Christmas. He looked at his dad and asked, "How much money do I have in the bank?" Mitch withdrew every dollar from his savings account and placed the money into bright orange envelopes for children on the pediatric oncology floor. He signed each one, "Love Mitch. XOXO."
Even while facing cancer himself, Mitch wanted to help other kids. Before he passed away, he asked his dad to pinky swear promise that he would always help kids with cancer, even after he was gone.
His dad made that promise.
When it came time to create the Pinky Swear Foundation brand, choosing the colors was easy.
Orange and blue were not selected because they looked great together. They were chosen because they reminded Mitch's family of the little boy who inspired a promise that has helped thousands of families facing childhood cancer.
Every time you see the Pinky Swear Foundation logo, you are seeing a small piece of Mitch's story.
The next time you see orange and blue, we hope you think of Mitch. We hope you remember the promise that started Pinky Swear Foundation. And we hope you know that you are making a difference for kids with cancer and their families every day.
