How Pinky Swear Foundation started

In 2002, a boy named Mitch was diagnosed with osteosarcoma. From his hospital bed surrounded by video games and toys, he overheard the family in the room next to him talking about the upcoming holiday and how they weren’t going to have enough money for presents.

The compassion in this nine-year-old prompted him to ask his dad to take him to the bank so he could take out his savings and give them to families on the oncology floor. So that is what they did. Mitch placed money into orange envelopes, signed them “XOXO, Love Mitchell,” and delivered them to kids and their families.

After he was done, he was filled with joy from helping others. In the elevator of the pediatric oncology hospital, Mitch made his dad pinky promise to help kids with cancer after he passed away.

We keep Mitch's promise and help families with everyday expenses during a childhood cancer diagnosis.

How Pink Swear helps families facing childhood cancer

Families facing pediatric cancer can receive support from Pinky Swear Foundation from one or more of our three programs, depending on their eligibility:

1. Pinky Swear Orange Envelope Program: Within six months of a child's diagnosis, the program provides timely assistance, including a $200 gift card for gas and groceries, heartfelt letters of encouragement, and a warm welcome to the Pinky Swear community.
2. Pinky Swear All-Star Fund: This fund provides assistance for rent/mortgage, utility payments, groceries, gas, and car payments, ensuring that families can focus on what truly matters - their child.
3. Pinky Swear Pantry: On-site hospital food pantries stocked with snacks, grab-and-go meals, and a variety of packaged treats, allowing families to stay close to their child and ease the financial burden of food costs.

All families who receive support from Pinky Swear are going through active treatment for a child facing cancer. Because of the financial support from Pinky Swear, families can focus on what matters most – their child’s health. They know they are not alone.
