Your social media feed might be full of yellow ribbons. You may go to a professional sports game and see that it is dedicated to childhood cancer. You might even see stores and restaurants dedicating a percentage of profits to a childhood cancer charity.
So why is everything yellow and gold this September?
This month is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.
Each year, 15,000 kids are diagnosed with cancer. Each year, families’ lives are turned upside down.
It can be easy to scroll past, decline a round-up at the grocery store, and go for a hot dog during a presentation about childhood cancer at the game, but we encourage you to stop and listen.
Families facing childhood cancer need communities of support to help them get through a childhood cancer diagnosis. Some organizations are focused on research (Yes! Please, let’s be rid of cancer), some are focused on helping with medical bills, and others (like us) are focused on relieving the financial burden that most people don’t think about – everyday expenses like housing, food, and transportation.
It doesn’t matter if you can or can't make a monetary donation this month; the importance is awareness.
Share this blog, send videos from our social media to your friends and family, or better yet, tell someone about Pinky Swear and why it matters to you.
Awareness leads to compassion, and compassion leads to action. Together, we can make a difference for kids with cancer and their families.
