Pinky Swear Foundation

IRA contributions

Give through your IRA

If you are 70 ½ years or older, you can give up to $100,000 from your Individual Retirement Account (IRA) directly to charities like Pinky Swear Foundation without having to pay income taxes on the funds. Qualified charitable distributions (QCDs) can satisfy all or part of your required minimum distribution from your IRA that would otherwise be taxable.

The distribution check must be made payable to Pinky Swear Foundation, though it can be mailed to you for delivery or forwarded directly to Pinky Swear by the administrator.

Until there is a cure ...

Families will need financial support during their childhood cancer journey. Thank you for considering Pinky Swear Foundation for a grant nomination.

FAQs about IRA contributions

How do I request a qualified charitable distribution from my IRA?

Contact your IRA administrator and see if they have a form that can be used to make an IRA direct charitable gift request. When you contact your IRA plan administrator, indicate that you are requesting a “qualified charitable distribution” from your IRA account to Pinky Swear Foundation and provide our address and tax ID. Please consult with your tax or financial advisor.

I’ve already named Pinky Swear as the beneficiary of my IRA. What are the benefits of making my gift now?

By making your gift this year of up to $100,000 from your IRA rather than after your lifetime, you can immediately see the impact of your dollars at work to help kids with cancer and their families.

When do I need to make my gift?
For your donation to qualify for a given year, it must be made by December 31 of that calendar year. Please note that your check must clear your account before the December 31 deadline to count toward your minimum distribution.
Can I claim a gift from my IRA as a seperate charitable contribution on my taxes?
You will not be able to claim a separate charitable contribution for the distribution on your income tax return, but the IRA withdrawal will be tax-free and can be used to satisfy your annual minimum required distribution.
I would like to give more than $100,000. How can I do that?
The maximum annual exclusion for qualified charitable distributions from an IRA is $100,000. However, if you have a spouse who is 70 ½ or older and has an IRA, they can also give up to the maximum limit from their IRA. You can also explore other ways to make a financial contribution to Pinky Swear to provide relief to families.
