Celebrating a decade of impact – the 10th annual Pinky Swear Radiothon

For the past 10 years, the Pinky Swear Radiothon has raised funds to financially support families facing childhood cancer. This year, on December 5, 2024, we celebrate this milestone. What began with a modest goal has grown into an event that brings together communities to shine a light on childhood cancer and its impact on families.

The impact of the Pinky Swear Radiothon has only been possible thanks to the generosity of NEWSRADIO 1040 WHO. From donating airtime, staff time, and studio space to promoting the cause with passion, WHO’s support has been foundational to the event’s success. Their partnership has allowed Radiothon to reach many listeners, inspiring them to make a difference.

How it Started

The inaugural Pinky Swear Radiothon began with a simple yet powerful idea: raise $25,000 to support families facing childhood cancer. The event brought together volunteers, staff, and donors with one shared goal—to make a difference. Radiothon9

For several years, Valley West Mall served as the vibrant heart of the Radiothon. On air with NEWSRADIO 1040 WHO, listeners could hear heartfelt stories from families while volunteers answered phones to accept generous donations from folks who opened their hearts and wallets to help. Year after year, the event grew—both in its fundraising impact and in the number of people it touched.

Rising to the Challenge

The COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 presented challenges for everyone, but it would not dampen the spirit of Radiothon. Adapting to the times, the event moved back to the studios at WHO Radio. Even in the midst of uncertainty, donors continued their support, proving that the mission of helping families facing childhood cancer mattered to this community.

The Heart Behind the Event

None of this would have been possible without the leadership, vision, and generosity of Don Snyder and Dean Snyder Construction (DSC).  Their support has been the driving force behind the Radiothon’s growth. Don Snyder’s passion and leadership inspired countless others to join the cause, and Dean Snyder Construction’s consistent sponsorship has ensured Radiothon’s success year after year. Together, they embody the Pinky Swear community spirit—helping families when they need it most.

The Reason for Radiothon

15,000 kids and their families hear the words "your child has cancer" each year. Their world is immediately turned upside down. Medical bills can beRadiothon23-012 delayed, but rent is due, food is a necessity, and families must fill their tanks to get to appointments. Families need help with everyday expenses. Through the dollars raised at Radiothon, Pinky Swear Foundation provides financial support so families can focus on the health of their child.

Looking Ahead

From our hosts and volunteers to our sponsors and donors, this event would not be possible without you. As we celebrate this 10-year milestone, we are filled with gratitude.

However, our work is far from done. Childhood cancer continues to affect families every day, and the need for support remains urgent. Let's make this Radiothon the biggest yet. We invite you to support Radiothon to provide financial resources for childhood cancer patients. Because of you, families will receive housing, food, and transportation payments during a really hard time.
