In the battle against childhood cancer, every story is a testament to courage, resilience, and the unwavering support that can make a world of difference. Meet Ophelia. Ophelia was diagnosed with B-Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia at five years old. Signs that something was wrong started with hives all over her body, but gradually got worse and led to a doctor visit for bloodwork.
“I had kind of suspected something more was going on. I work in the hospital doing cardiac ultrasounds, and at the bottom of the rabbit hole is always cancer,” said Ophelia's mom Bobbi. “I knew it was possible, but you never think the worst is going to happen. In that second, everything changed."
Treatment began immediately, and the family was left to make some really hard decisions about her care, work, and their other children that also needed cared for.
You have the opportunity to hear Ophelia's story live as well as many other Pinky Swear All-Star families navigating cancer during the WHO Pinky Swear Radiothon on Friday, December 8, 2023.
